8th Grade Science News

In Science Class, students are finishing their Energy Efficient Home Projects. We have had a few homes that broke the previous record for low 20 year energy costs, so some of the students have made very good choices in the project. Commercials for the project will be presented on June 4th and 7th. June 8th and 9th will be review days for the final exam on June 10th.

Miss Mancini-Language Arts

It's the last full week of 8th grade and there is still so much to do! On Monday and Tuesday of this week, students will be conferencing with each other on their Book of Me's. Wednesday will be another day of D.A.R.E in Language Arts class. Then Thursday and Friday will be the last chance for students to work in the computer before their Book of Me is due on June 2nd!

READING----This week will we complete the novel Acceleration. On Tuesday, May 25 will be the Unit 15 vocab quiz. See below specific dues dates for assignments.

MONDAY, May 24th:

TUESDAY, May 25th:
Vocab book with ALL Unit 15 vocab exercises completed
Vocab puzzles (pds. 4 & 8)

Friday, May 28th:
Acceleration story map

Final exam is a selective open note final exam. Students will receive a worksheet listing the allowable worksheets for the exam.

Miss Mancini-Language Arts

It's Book of Me crunch time! On Monday we will discuss the table of contents and on Tuesday students will read Sandra Cisneros' short story Eleven to help give them some more ideas for extras for their books. Wednesday the students will have DARE in Language Arts class. Thursday and Friday will be spent in the computer lab finalizing the Book of Me. Students are advised to use their time wisely. On Monday, May 24th, students are expected to have a "rough draft" or a working product of their Book of Me in class with them.

Book of Me is due on June 2nd!

8th Grade Science News

Science Students are currently working on our Energy Efficient Home Design project. The students have completed Property Layout, and are beginning to work on Floor Plans, which are due Monday, May 24th. During the week of the 24th, students will be working on Heating, Cooling, and Hot Water, followed by Kitchens, Bathrooms, etc. Students will benefit from newspaper ads from stores like Best Buy, Lowes, and Home Depot. If you get a Sunday newspaper, please allow students to bring in those ads. Thanks.

READING---This week we will continue our reading of the book Acceleration. On Monday is Reading Workshop and letter #6 is due. Tuesday, May 18th there will be a Unit 14 vocab quiz. Vocab books and Moodle sentences are due today.



Book Buddy Journal letter due dates:
Buddy is selected by each 8th grade student.

Letter #6 --Monday, May 17th
Letter #7 --Monday, May 24th
Letter #8 (extra) & quarterly journal grade assigned --Monday, June 7th
Student who have received 10s and only one 9.5 score on their letters do NOT need to write Letter #8
